QUEEN AMINATU(AMINA) OF ZAZZAU

Queen Amina of Zazzau (also known as Queen Aminatu) was a legendary Hausa queen of the Zazzau Kingdom (now Zaria, Nigeria) in the 16th century.

Commonly known as the warrior queen, Queen Amina of Zaria was the first woman to become the Sarauniya (queen) in a male-dominated society. She expanded the territory of the Hausa/Zazzau's borders by establishing trade routes and through successful military campaigns by conquering neighboring territories to achieve its largest borders in history.

She reigned circa 1576-1610, she succeeded her father, Bakwa Turunku and was known for her military prowess, political intelligence, and architectural innovations.

She built earthen walls and fortifications, including the famous Zaria City Wall, which still stands today.

Her legacy has inspired many, and she remains a symbol of female empowerment and leadership in Nigerian culture. She was succeeded by her son, Karama
