Traditional Koummya daggers from North Africa.

Traditional Koummya daggers from North Africa.

Particularly associated with Morocco, the Koummya is believed to be a regional variant of the Arabic jambiya dagger. It has a curved double-edged blade, peacock’s tail pommel and richly decorated handle and scabbard, often in silver, with a distinctively upturned tip. It’s worn on the left, suspended vertically, with the scabbard tip pointing forward. They are still produced to this day, and are a popular choice of souvenir for tourists.
