My dear Facebook family, The African History Channel recently reached 10.000 followers!

I would like to thank you all so very much for the love and support that you have shown this project so far! It means the world to me!

Pictured is an Akwanshi or “person in the ground”. These are stone monoliths, found among the Ekoi people of the northern Cross River State, Nigeria. Dates of manufacture for these monoliths are not known. There is general agreement among scholars that they are memorials for the ancestors, and were usually found arranged in circular groups facing each other, at the centre of old abandoned villages.
