🤴🏿 King Amenemhat III

👑 🤴🏿 King Amenemhat III

He was the son of Sesostris III and probably of Queen Neferousobekshedeti or Sobekshedeti Neferou.

According to the latest research on a papyrus in Berlin's Ägyptisches Museum, some Egyptologists claim that it shows a year 20 of Sesostris III's reign, which would be equivalent to Amenemhat III's year 1. This would mean that Sesostris III would have had a co-regency with his son from this year onwards, for a period of 20 years 🌹

His reign :

Unlike his father, Amenemhat III's foreign policy was peaceful. His quiet reign is considered the high point of the dynasty. He inherited a well-organized country, very active in Nubia and Sinai.

The southern border with Nubia was strengthened at Semna, and several fortresses designed to combat the Nubians were enlarged. Amenemhat III developed trade with Greece and above all with the Phoenician coast and the cities of Byblos, Tyre and Ugarit.

The leading figures of these highly Egyptianized cities acted as intermediaries between Egypt and the Near East❤️

His buildings :

As for his important activity as a builder, he is credited with: Colossal statues 12m. high at Biahmou (or Biyahmu); the construction of numerous sanctuaries and temples throughout the country, such as the temples of Sobek at Shedet (Crocodilopolis), a chapel dedicated to the Harvest Goddess Ernoutet at Medinet Mâdi (Térénouthis), at Abydos, Bubastis and at Memphis where the King had the ancient temple of Ptah enlarged.

Royal workshops reached their apogee in the mastery of statuary art. This policy of major construction shows the wealth of the country during the reign of this sovereign 🌹
