King Emeka of Rano vs. Bulus the Sooth-sayer

King Emeka of Rano vs. Bulus the Sooth-sayer

In the era when the Igbos still ruled over the Hausa Kingdom, precisely during the reign of Emeka the great King of Rano, who was popularly known as King Mekus back in the 1100's.

There was a sooth-sayer called Bulus, who was predicting the date of people's death in the village of Rano, and when the date came the people died.

Everyone in Rano was scared and they called Bulus a devil. They reported him to King Mekus and the King ordered that Bulus be brought to his palace Immediately.

When Bulus arrived the palace, the King accused him of murdering all the people who died after he predicted the date of their death's correctly, and ordered Bulus to confess immediately how he killed the people.

Bulus remained adamant that he was not a murderer, and he was just a sooth-sayer that could see the future. The King was angered by this, so he ordered that Bulus be taken to the gallows and executed by hanging after three days if he doesn't confess.

Three days passed and Bulus remained adamant that he could see the future and was not a murderer.

On the third day Bulus was taken to the gallows, a rope was tied around his neck, and his hands were bound around his back. Just as the hang man was about to strike and execute Bulus, a messenger arrived from the King saying they should halt before killing Bulus.

King Mekus came to the gallows himself and asked Bulus to predict the date that the King himself was going to die, and Bulus replied that his vision was blurry due to the burkutu he drank but what he could see was that the King would die between two or three days after Bulus dies.

The King couldn't believe this, at the same time he did not want to test fate, or take this risk, so he ordered that Bulus be released and a mighty palace was built for Bulus by the King, and from then onward the medical team of the King began taking daily care of Bulus, bringing him only the best foods in the market.

Eventually King Mekus died several years before Bulus.
