~SOURCE OF THE NAME ABIDJAN ~

THE BIDJANS and the Origin of the name Abidjan 🇨🇮

The Bidjan are a brotherhood (confederation), of the Tchaman made up of 7 villages (Cocody, Bidjan Djemin, Locodjro, Bidjan té, Anoumabo, Bidjan Santé, Bidjan Gban) whose center is Bidjan Djemin.
NB Abidjan designates the site inhabited by the Bidjan siblings.

The name Bidjan, unlike the most famous version, namely a name born from a misunderstanding between a settler and a native woman. Indeed this name was given by the Bobo, having surprised them early in the morning sleeping on freshly cut leaves, an atypical occurrence in the area.
NB The misunderstanding relates to the lady thinking that the settler was asking her where she came from, hence her response "min tchan abi djan" to say "I left to pick fresh leaves".

BIDJAN DJEMIN.
Bidjan Djemin, is the capital of Goto (confederation) Bidjan, the gathering place, the capital.

KOBRIMAN.
The nationals of Bidjan Djemin come from the wave of migration of the 17-18th century, that of the Kobriman, the lesser known name of the Bidjan, who came from a locality in Kumasi (Kabrew), who traveled with the Abron Djaman. 

But these Kobriman did not stay in the northeast zone of the Ci. They crossed the Agni zone, Akye, after a detour to Mielegon, they will create 2 hamlets: Adouatchin min (current site of FILTISAC) and Bidjan N'gromin ( in the Banco forest).
NB These Kobriman were fleeing the war between Opokou Ware and the Abron Djaman sovereigns, so they abandoned their original language to better blend in with the crowd and not be spotted. Bidjan N'Gromin some refer to this site as Adouamè.

Certain districts of Adjame, now indicated
by new ones were the plantations of the nationals of the village of Adjame. For historical purposes it is more than necessary to know the original names.

GOBLÈ.
